FINISHING TOUCHES

+ Impregnation with wood preservatives

+ Painting

The finished glulam beams can be suitably coated & maintained with either a penetrating sealer or paint coating. When painting or staining external glulam beams it is preferable to use lighter colours. Dark colours attract heat and may cause surface shrinkage over a long period of time.

Although glulam does not require preservative treatment for most uses, certain applications may present environmental conditions conducive to decay, insect, or marine borer attack, as well as the long-term or frequent presence of moisture.
